    EVENT DESCRIPTION

SoULL (School of Unusual Life Learning) is a multi-level somatically focused program about human life which helps you take your own life and work to a new level of depth and presence. SoULL’s primary task is to connect human helpers, healers and creatives with wisdom teachings sourced from the natural world so that they first recognize themselves and others as natural and find radical applications of this awareness.

SoULL presently has 2 years, the first being Pilgrim SoULL which is a 6-month program consisting of 3 units. The units are as follows:

Unit 1: The Nature of Being Human

    May 14, 2021 - May 31, 2021

During the two weekends, Jeanne will introduce a language of human life itself, integrating the processes of aging and dying into an overview of human development. Through direct teaching and experiences, students will learn to see spiritual, energetic and somatic experience as deeply, inevitably connected, and discover the continuity of life (or “Life Movement”) within the body and psyche. They will learn to recognize patterns within this movement, which include the Vertical Pulse, the Allometric Wave, the Circular Pulse and the Radial Pulse. Students will link these insights to existing developmental theories within somatic psychology, especially Neo-Reichian theories. This unit will be in online format.

Unit 2: The Nature of Relationship

    Aug 6, 2021 - Aug 9, 2021

Relationships are essential for human survival.  But what are they?  In this unit we take up this question, seeing relationships as living energetic systems that grow, breathe and change. We examine how they develop, get ill, heal, inevitably end and also live forever. The inevitable experience of grief will be explored, as well as attachment, breakups, and the components of good and bad endings. In this weekend, we study the Horizontal Pulse, the Vertical Pulse, and the Dual Pulse, patterns of natural life movement within a relationship. In sum, we will be studying the energetics of human relationship and how they effect our bodies. This weekend will be in-person at the DeKoven Center in Racine, WI.

Unit 3: The Nature of Community

    Oct 15, 2021 - Oct 18, 2021

In the final unit of Pilgrim SoULL, students put learning about individuals and relationships together to explore larger systems of energy: families, groups and communities. We will look at common group energy forms, the leadership of these forms, as well as group identity and conflict, individual roles within groups and ultimately the role of communities in our understanding of life purpose. Finally, students look at how communities impact both individual development and relationship processes, and elements of wise and sustainable communities.

Unit 1 may be taken as a standalone unit. Students must fill out an application to be considered for the full program.

Level I of The Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Training Program in Affect Regulation, Attachment, and Trauma equips therapists to better understand the symptoms and issues of these challenging client populations and to work with them in a more effective way. The Level I Training presents simple, body-oriented interventions for tracking, naming, and safely exploring trauma-related, somatic activation, creating new competencies and restoring a somatic sense of self. Students will learn effective, accessible interventions for identifying and working with disruptive somatic patterns, disturbed cognitive and emotional processing, and the fragmented sense of self experienced by so many traumatized individuals. Techniques are taught within a phase-oriented treatment approach, focusing first on stabilization and symptom reduction. SHORT SUMMARY

Shame is an embodied belief that "something is wrong with me." Because shame exists in the body as well as in the mind, it is helpful for therapists to work with shame somatically. Melting the Shame Freeze – Building Resilience, Resources, and a Return to Safety and Connection

A workshop for therapists and other helping professionals

With Sheila Rubin LMFT, RDT/BCT and Bret Lyon PhD, SEP

    Saturday, May 15, 10am-6pm & Saturday, May 22, 10am-5:45pm PDT

    CAMFT CE provider #134393

Shame is an extraordinary combination of a primary emotion and a state of freeze. It is an embodied belief that "something is wrong with me." Shame, like trauma, puts the body in a freeze state and lowers the ability to think and act clearly. Because shame exists in the body as well as in the mind, it is important that therapists work with shame somatically.

In this workshop, you will explore how to utilize somatic techniques to connect more quickly with the client and forge a strong therapeutic alliance. You will learn how to prevent somatic counter-transference and avoid taking on the client's physical shame patterns.

    You will:

    • Focus on using breathing and grounding to resource the client, becoming more aware of your own breathing and expanding it in the process.
    • Learn how you can resource yourself so that you don't fall into somatic counter-transference and take on the client's physical shame patterns.
    • Explore how to keep your clients more present in the room with you and counter over-verbalization, dissociation, and freezing.
    • Learn techniques and theory from Wilhelm Reich (the father of Somatics), Peter Levine (Somatic Experiencing®), Stephen Porges (Polyvagal Theory), Ron Kurtz (Hakomi), and Eugene Gendlin (Focusing).

There is no prerequisite for this course. It can be taken by itself or as part of a sequence.

The child lives on! Though we may develop adult bodies and think our childhood is long behind us, somewhere inside the child is still alive, deeply influencing our thoughts, words and actions. It may be that the most important relationship we have is the relationship we develop with our inner child. In this workshop, we will teach you how to help your clients reestablish a healthy relationship with their inner child—so that they can both listen and talk to that sensitive, creative, and essential part of us.

Using Imaginal techniques, we join and explore the world of the child. We learn how to work effectively and add a healthy coach or caring inner parent to repair the shame-ruptured parts from neglect or simply misattunements. We say hello to the part that wants to eat healthy and the part that wants ice cream. And say hello to the bully and the scary places. We learn to listen deeply and provide the champion or protector that the child didn’t have. We get to explore and re-enact scenes from childhood when a person was shamed and repair or replace what they wish they could have said.

There is no prerequisite for this course. It can be taken by itself or as part of a sequence.

We deliver high-quality integrative training for clinicians, therapists, community leaders, health practitioners to empower individuals & communities to CARE: Compassion, Awareness, Resiliency & Empowerment.

This CARE Training Introductory Workshop: From somatics to neuro-spirituality

Most therapy is about reducing symptoms and solving problems. At NeuroSytemics, we have a meta-framework for our therapeutic practice, which includes trauma-healing, symptom reduction and having a functional daily life. Yet, with our cutting-edge nervous system science and social psychology tools, we also deepen somatic embodiment, and practice feeling safe and belonging in groups.

AND, we also have a psycho-spiritual maps which enable rigorous interventions to open up mystic states, at the individual, group and community level. Irvin Yalom, Boaz’s mentor, viewed therapy as a deep journey to discover of the human condition. Boaz was a Buddhist monk in Thailand, and he brings hs contemplative experience with clear and simple practices to enable group fields to access higher states of flow and coherence.

This specific workshop is a unique opportunity to strengthen Oneself, Oneness and Emptiness. As a gentle and progressive pathway, we foster strong positive reinforcement techniques to build a resilient self, embody ourselves in a safe community and provide doorways to high frequency mystic/flow states at the individual and collective levels. Research collaboration informing this workshop includes Prof. Newberg‘s neurotheological approach to science and psycho-spirituality. Join us for a new and invigorating experience, TOGETHER!

Objectives & Benefits of the Workshop

This Introductory Workshop will offer you:

Skills to up-regulate your nervous system: Experiential practices of nervous system embodiment and the integration of somatics in group work.

Small group practice opportunities: You will have small dryads & triads to practice these skills, accompanied by professionally trained mentors.

Pedagogical maps & learning frameworks: An understanding of somatic practices with nervous system science, a systemics frame from social psychology and an overview of psycho-spiritual states of consciousness.

Live demonstrations and opportunities for discussion.

Trauma healing first and foremost occurs when we have choice. You are welcome to participate in any of the above, or none, as your own nervous system feels attuned to. We highly value your presence, and will support whichever way you’d like to join us! Is the CARE ONLINE Training, starting September 30, 2021 for me?

The CARE Training and workshops are for:

While no one has an easy time with shame, for many men it can be especially hard. Men often don't even realize that they feel shame. They may suddenly find themselves shouting or blaming someone else, or pulling away and stonewalling. They may find themselves depressed and isolated, without really knowing why.

In this workshop we explore the invisible shame in many men. You will learn how to countershame them and invite them to join you rather than fight you when shame is activated in the session. We offer tools and languaging that will move men into curiosity about the shame underlying thoughts and behaviors. When we get them onboard with recognizing and accepting that they have shame, as everyone does, we can help them take steps to explore and heal.

    December 11, 11:00 AM to 03:30 PM

    EVENT DESCRIPTION:

Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy catalyzes powerful change by bridging the gap between yoga and mind-body psychology. This form of mind-body therapy uses yoga postures, hands-on assists, and therapeutic dialogue to facilitate growth and healing. Clients are gently guided through a meditation that brings them to a state of self-awareness and inner presence, from which profound wisdom can arise. The result is clear insight and a practical, action-based approach to lasting life change.

    Course Objective

Gain deep understanding of the Phoenix Rising Method™ and its paradigm of life change based on the intersection of Yoga, Buddhism, Psychology, and Neuroscience.

Yoga Therapists, Yoga Teachers, Mental Health Professionals, and others who want to empower students and clients to create more powerful, meaningful, and fulfilling lives in both classroom and practice environments.

    • Learn the distinction between present-centered awareness (direct experience) and narrative referencing, and why this distinction is essential from a neuroscientific perspective.
    • Learn skills to engage others in direct experience through the body so that they can immerse themselves into a profound state of awareness.
    • Acquire tools to engage others in integrated mind-body practices.
    • Gain understanding of the process of change. Explore the interaction of the body, breath, mind intellect, and emotions.
    • Acquire tools for body-mind integration that leads to life changing action and an understanding of how to apply this approach in your own classes or private practice.
