When you hear Focusers rave about Focusing, you might think that a skill that is so valuable would be very difficult to acquire. You might be intimidated by phrases such as “felt sense,” or by the idea of a process that involves a number of specific steps. And so you might be postponing learning about Focusing until you have more time and energy to get into something that’s a bit complicated.
But there is no reason to make Focusing complicated. It is based on a natural ability that we all have. So “learning” Focusing mostly consists of noticing how you are naturally good at it. It is easy, fun, liberating and mind-expanding to realize how much you already know. Instead of approaching this from a theoretical point of view, you will see how a natural understanding of it emerges from practicing and discussing it during the workshop.
The core practice of Focusing is the mindful listening partnership. So the first part of this workshop is to pay attention to different ways that we listen. This way, you can easily see how Focusing is an easy and natural way to listen better, to another person as well as to yourself. We will also explore Focusing through demonstrations, Q&A, and practice with a partner.
Of course, doing this workshop does not turn you into an accomplished Focuser overnight. But you can start practicing and get better as you practice. Also, it will make it possible for you to participate in other Focusing workshops in which people pair up in breakout rooms to deepen the learning experience. Serge will be offering other workshops in the coming months.
Attending in person is encouraged as there will be the opportunity to practice in pairs via breakout rooms and to ask questions during the workshop. All registrants will receive a link to the recording (breakout rooms are not recorded).
The video link is an easy to use format called Zoom. You will need to have a computer/mobile device. Calling in by phone is also possible but not preferred. The class will be held in meeting format so that all participants will see the presenter and each other. (There is an option to turn off your video if you prefer and technical instructions will be given at the class start).
