Cost: $250.00 for both days

Course Description:

Research shows that trauma is a nearly universal experience for individuals with behavioral health issues and more than likely a universal experience for anyone dealing with addiction and recovery issues. And, an individual’s experience of trauma impacts every area of human functioning—their physical, mental, behavioral, social, and spiritual well-being. It is therefore imperative to be trauma informed and have a greater understating of the biology and psychology of trauma.

In this course, through the lens of the latest brain science, attachment theory, and somatic therapies, participants will understand their own experience of dysregulation in the body/mind system and learn concrete skills to facilitate self-regulation, co-regulation and balance for themselves and those they serve.

Learning Objectives:

  • Define and be able to identify different types of trauma and its prevalence in society.

  • Gain an understanding of brain functioning and how trauma impacts access to executive functioning and leaves a survivor stuck in the past.

  • Learn to identify dysregulation in the autonomic nervous system and learn skills to bring the system back into safety and balance.

  • Begin to understand the science of attachment, your own attachment style, and the role your attachment tendencies play in relational trauma. Learn concrete interventions that begin to repair this primal wound.

  • Understand how affect phobia and the lack of emotional tolerance leads to maladaptive strategies of coping with life, including addiction, personality disorders and somatic illness.

  • Understand how vicarious trauma shows up in a care-givers system and learn ways to avoid burnout.

  • Learn about Post Traumatic Growth and the importance that compassion, and self-care play in healing.
