Vicarious and Intergenerational Trauma: How we absorb it, can recognize it, and set it down
Trauma therapist and FOT trainer Jeffrey Morrison will give a brief overview of what vicarious and intergenerational trauma is, how it impacts us, and how we can heal and grow from it. He will incorporate aspects of an indigenous land-based understanding expressed from an “All My Relations” perspective. Jeffrey will guide participants to find an aspect of their own vicarious experience they may want to set down. Grief, gratitude, and ritual will be explored in this process.

We live with and absorb unprocessed and dissociated aspects of others experience. It is our nature to do so. It is a way of caring for each other. Through our families, culture, and media, the experiences of others can be taken in and held in our bodies. We can be a resource for each other’s healing but can also be wounded by their pain.
