About Life Movement
LIFE Movement (Leven Institute for Expressive Movement) is a teaching institute that offers somatic training programs to support one’s personal growth and professional development. We train therapists and educators in our two modalities– SomaSoul® Somatic Therapy and Shake Your Soul®: the Yoga of Dance. Our programs focus on the power of mind-body integration as we train therapists and educators within our approach and our principles to whole person healing and transformation of body tensions into well-being and nervous system dysregulation into balance and painful emotions into beacons of guidance and homes of healing.
SomaSoul® Somatic Therapy is a healing modality that fleshes out the classic saying that the “issue is in the tissues.” In this somatic therapeutic training, you will learn an in-depth approach to working with embodied experience and the “how” to process undigested emotional experience and trauma that lodges itself in the body and nervous system. SomaSoul is an integrative synthesis of Body-Centered Gestalt Psychotherapy, Expressive Arts Therapy, Polyvagal informed therapy, Body-Mind Centering®, and mindfulness. The SomaSoul training is conducted in a live virtual format. Shake Your Soul® is a training program and movement practice that integrates elements from Body-Mind Centering®, modern dance, creative movement, qigong and yoga that profoundly connects participants with their own life force or prana or qi and how that shapes and guides movement. Additionally, it helps participants feel the spirit of the music and how the spirit of music can literally “move” the spirit within the body. Our instructors learn to create a sweaty, sacred space where participants find communion within their own bodies and souls as they join in a creative and inspired community of natural dancers.

Dan is the Founder and Director of LIFE Movement, Leven Institute for Expressive Movement. Drawing from 40 years of experience, Dancreated integrative approaches to body-mind healing and wellness: Shake Your Soul® and SomaSoul®: Somatic Therapy. As a former professional dancer and Program Director at the Kripalu Center where he co-founded Kripalu Danskinetics™ (now Kripalu YogaDance), Dan has led numerous workshops and professional certification trainings at the Omega Institute and Kripalu. Dan holds a Master’s in Pastoral Counseling and served as a faculty member of Hartford Family Institute’s Body-Centered Gestalt Psychotherapy Training Program, training psychotherapists and healers in this work.
