Our Vision
We see the journal as a focal point for our field. We offer an important tool for cross-pollination, bringing together colleagues internationally and laying the groundwork for their vital contributions to somatic and body-inclusive therapies.
Our History
The journal traces its roots to the United States Association for Body Psychotherapy Journal, founded in 2001 by Dr. Jacqueline Carleton, of the United States Association for Body Psychotherapy (USABP). Guided by Dr. Carleton’s vision and expertise, the publication marked its 10th anniversary in 2011 as an established voice in our field.
At that milestone, the European Association for Body Psychotherapy (EABP) assumed stewardship of the journal, which was renamed the International Body Psychotherapy Journal (IBPJ) to reflect its expanding reach and mission.
In 2018, the EABP and USABP joined forces to co-publish the journal, forming a collaborative international editorial committee. This partnership was born of a shared commitment to support the growth of somatics and body psychotherapy and to foster dialogue, research, and clinical innovation across continents.
Today, the IBPJ is an international forum dedicated to advancing somatics and body-inclusive psychotherapy and to strengthening our professional community.

Our Mission
Building on our international foundation, the journal supports the growing recognition of somatics and body psychotherapy.
We seek to offer a full spectrum of inquiry, ranging from emerging research and evolving clinical practice to interdisciplinary perspectives that honor the relational and embodied knowledge at the core of our work.
We are committed to nurturing our community by fostering the exchange of ideas, scholarship, and clinical experience. We encourage dialogue and collaboration with related therapeutic and scientific disciplines to cultivate a shared space where body-inclusive approaches can continue to grow, inform practice, and contribute to meaningful change in the lives of those we serve.
