Committee Chairs


The Board of Directors are elected by the membership to 2-year terms.  Half of the terms end in even-numbered years and the other half in odd-numbered years.

Katy Swafford, Ph.D.
Board of Directors, President

Katy Swafford, Ph.D. returns to the USABP Board of Directors after serving from 2000-2008.  She has served on the Academic Council, the Lifetime Achievement Committee, the Research Committee, the Ethic's Committee, the Membership Committee, and the Board Self-Review Committee.  She has a private practice and teaches at St. Edwards University in Austin, Texas.  Term ends June 2013.


Mary Giuffra, Ph.D.
Board of Directors, Vice President

Mary J. Giuffra, Ph.D. has been a Board member since 1998. At that time she was elected Vice President and continues to serve in that capacity. She is a member of the Publicity Committee, Strategic Planning Committee, and co-chairs the Academic Council. An Academic and college administrator, Mary has been in private practice for 30 years and is licensed and board certified in advanced practice psych/mental health nursing and certified in Marriage and Family Therapy,She is also a certified biodynamic craniosacral therapist and a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing.   Core Energetics and Somatic Experiencing.  Term ends 6/30/13.


Lynn Turner, PhD,LCSW
Board of Directors, Secretary, Research Committee

Lynn Turner, Ph.D, LCSW joined the Board in 2007.  She is currently serving as the Board of Director's Secretary. She has a strong interest in encouraging the membership to increase research projects through easily applied measures.  Term ends 6/30/13


Ann Ladd
Board of Directors, Treasurer, Conference Chair

Ann Ladd, Ph.D., LCW joined the board in 2008.  She serves on the Executive Committee as the treasurer.  She is the current conference chair for the 2012 conference and served on the 2010 conference committee.  She lives and works in Pueblo, Colorado.  Term ends 6/30/12.


Paul Briggs, MSW, LCSW, LMT
Board of Directors

Paul C. Briggs, MSW, LCSW, LMT joined the Board in 2006.  He served as Conference Committee chair for the 2010 Conference, and on the Conference Committee for the 2008 and 2012 conference.  He also has served as the organizations Vice President since 2008-2011.  Since 1996, he has worked in both the public and private sectors in the areas of Substance Abuse, Mental Health, and Healthcare.  As both a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Licensed Massage Therapist, Paul enjoys working within South Florida communities, providing education and therapeutic services.  He also serves on local boards of NASW, SunServe, and FSMTA.  Term ends 6/30/12.


Jacqueline A. Carleton
Board of Directors, Treasurer, Journal Editor

Jacqueline A. Carleton, Ph.D. has served as the Board of Director's treasurer since 2007 and on the Board of Directors since 1998.  SHe is also the founding editor of the USA Body Psychotherapy Journal.   SHe has practiced and taught both body psychotherapy and psychodynamic psychotherapy for over 30 years.  Most recently, she has integrated Somatic Experiencing into her research, teaching, and private practice.  She was educated at Smith College, MIT, and Columbia University. Term ends 6/30/12.


Marcel Duclos, M.Th., M.Ed.
Board of Directors

Marcel A. Duclos, M.Th., M.Ed., NH-LCMHC, MLADC, LCS, AZ-RLPC, RLISAC has served on the USABP Board from 1998-2000, 2004-2006, and again from 2011-present.  He has served as Chair or the Training Standards, Committee, the Chair of the Lifetime Achievement Award Committee, and been a member of the Ethics Committee.  He has also written for the USA Body Psychotherapy Journal, been a presenter at several USABP Conferences, and served in several other special needs capacities.  Term ends June 2013


Virginia Dennehy, Ph.D., Lic Psy; Diplomate
Board of Director

Virginia Dennehy, Ph.D. is a diplomate in process psychology and a licensed psychologist, practicing body  psychotherapy in a private practice setting and teaching somatic psychotherapy (body/mind/ spirit integrative psychotherapy) in several masters and PhD programs in the state of California. She also serves on the Academic Council and was chair of the Ethics Committee when the USABP Ethical Guidelines were written and passed.  Term ends 6/30/12.


Greg Johanson, Ph.D.
Board of Directors, Membership Co-Chair

Greg Johanson, Ph.D. was first elected in 2004 and serves as co-chair of the Membership Committee.  He has a background in therapy as well as theology. He is a member of the American Psychological Association as well as the American Association of Pastoral Counselors, a Licensed Professional Counselor as well as a pastoral psychotherapist. He has been active in writing, publishing over 150 items in the fields of psychotherapy and pastoral theology, and is on the editorial board of six professional journals including the Hakomi Forum and the USA Body Psychotherapy Journal. He has taught adjunct in a number of graduate schools, and is currently a dissertation advisor with the Santa Barbara Graduate Institute of the Chicago School of Professional Psychoogy Ph.D. program and the George Fox University D.Min. program. He is a founding trainer of the Hakomi Institute He has a special interest in Integral Psychology which relates spirituality to individual consciousness and behavior in the context of social and cultural issues. He lives and practices in Oregon. Term ends 6/30/12.



Board of Directors, Publicity Committee, Conversations

Serge Prengel, LMHC has been a member of the USABP Membership Committee and the Somatic Perspectives (USABP Conversations) since 2007.  He brings a lot of energy and enthusiasm to the Board of Directors.  He has presented at USABP Conferences.  He lives and practices in New York City.  Term ends June 2013.
